My Widelux Rant

While there are many cameras that I like to use I try to primarily take stills on my Widelux F7 which was gifted to me by my grandfather. I was on a mission to try to find my everyday camera and I tried plenty. At first, I thought the EOS-1 was the camera for me (due to the fact that most of my glass is EF mount) but I quickly discovered something about it was missing. I began down a very treacherous path of finding what my everyday camera would be. Then, I thought I should move over to my grandfather’s Lecia M3 but quickly realized rangefinders are super cool but not for me. I then stumbled upon a Nishika N8000 which at first I was very fond of but quickly discovered while the ‘gag’ was interesting it isn’t really usable in every location. I then thought purchasing a Byu-N16 was the solution but also quickly discovered that the pictures were too small and it was a fun tool when it was the right job. Shooting panoramic 35mm has been incredibly interesting to me ever since I discovered the X-Pan II but I began to look for a way to do it both affordably and in style.

I finally landed on the Widelux as a birthday gift and ever since then I have taken it almost everywhere with me. With a fixed focus and aperture of 2.8 in most situations, the Widelux is able to perform in a way that I find incredibly satisfying. I hope to one day have the luxury of printing the pictures I’ve been lucky enough to take with this camera.
